I photographed Brett and Erin's 'big day' in Seattle for almost 12 hours. It was a marvelously long day and with a long day, I have lots and lots of photos to pick to feature in a blog. I just couldn't do it. I couldn't have one blog post covering all the happenings I photographed that day - too much eye candy. So this is PART ONE of their special day starting off at the Alexis Hotel in downtown Seattle. The gals got ready in the hottest room I have ever seen. This hotel was amazing - comfortably modern with a classy sexy vibe. The room featured a music theme through its art on the wall; such as two signed guitars from famous bands. And exposed brick walls.....ahhhhhh.....I love exposed brick walls. The hotel room was as big as my townhouse (no exaggeration) and made getting ready with a group of girls, your mother and grandmother quite pleasant and stress-free. But I think my head exploded when Erin brought her dress out. It was perfect for her April wedding day. Its ruffled tiered skirt reminded me of tulip petals which were in season and blossoming like crazy all over the city. Her bouquet, appropriately matched as a bundle of red tulips with accenting yellow tips.
Erin. I have to talk about the bride. She and I went to high school together, knew each other, but were not close friends. I always admired her beautiful blue eyes and on her wedding day, I was reminded about this feature of hers - they shined so beautifully. She was so easy-going this day which was another trait of Erin I fondly remembered. It puts everyone else at ease when the bride is at ease.
When I had met with Brett and Erin prior to the wedding, I fell in love with them as a couple. They had such fun ideas for their day and I love an opinionated groom about his wedding day. Grooms get involved- its a blast! One thing important to them was to meet up before the ceremony together and just take a breather, enjoy each other's company and then go to their wedding together. I loved the idea. As a photographer, I loved the idea of the 'first seeing' being in an unexpected place. As a married women myself, I loved the intimacy about the idea. The day is about the two of you. No one else. Sometimes all the hoop-la interferes. Sometimes, brides and grooms barely speak to one another at their own wedding besides the vows because there are so many people to talk with, hug and receive congratulations. This couple planned it right. Take that 30 minutes before the family photos to just be together (with your wedding photographer, of course!) They met at this great hidden bar underneath Pikes Place Market called the Alibi Room - a perfect name for the occasion. I parted ways with the bride and groom; they enjoyed a photo-free cab ride to the ceremony together as they planned (I wish I was a fly on that cab window). As I entered the ceremony/reception space at Georgetown Ballroom, someone asked me frantically, 'Where is the bride and groom!?' I smiled, 'They have their alibi.'
I might just steal these shoes from Erin. Hide them Erin, hide them! I checked- they are my size. ;)
Erin getting a text from Brett. They are about to meet.
Brett looking handsome waiting for his bride-to-be...countdown two hours.
Just outside is one of Seattle's treasured secrets. Seattlites are odd people and we like odd things. So of course photos needed to be taken next to a wall covered in chewing gum. In formal wear- of course!
