Sneak Peek : Ben and Hailey's WEDDING

Ben and Hailey shared their wedding day with friends and family at a private residence in Fall City, WA.  More photos to come this week!  Just had to drop a sneak peek blog post.  The day was full of spontaneous magic.

When Hailey and Ben first saw each other, a ladybug landed on Hailey's dress.  Knowing the legend of a ladybug's luck, I discouraged the couple from sweeping it away.  As I got closer to catch a photo of this good fortune, the ladybug took flight.  Lucky for me, I captured its photo in mid-flight.  Always let the ladybug fly away on its own for the bit of luck (if you believe in that sort of thing).  As predicted, this wedding was filled with goodness.  Thank you ladybug.

Tobin + Mary = Vintage Inspired Engagement

I am photographing Tobin and Mary's wedding at the end of July and look forward to having my 'birdie BOOTH' Photo Booth at their reception.  Mary is full of style and I wasn't surprised when she requested some engagement photos that took on a vintage flair.  I love stylizing a session around an idea or theme - it pushes the photographer to play with props and setting.  Luckily I know someone with an awesome bike - which anchored the era and then I could play in photoshop everything else.  Pretty sweet bike, isn't it?
So this Blog post shows the vintage session and the modern session.  I wanted to make sure they had a stylistically diverse collection of photos.  But what am a talking about?  Too much shop-talk.  This is about Mary and Tobin...

Tobin and Mary are so cute together.  I love how Mary admires Tobin - you can see the sparkle in her eyes when she looks at him.  He makes her happy and that is evident.  Tobin equally lights up when he glances her way;  his eyes shine and you know his smile represents his fondness for her - his future wife.  Real smiles shine through the eyes.

Vintage Romance...

Hot shoes help...and Converse!  I heart Converse.

Tobin and Mary's puppy.  How cute is that furry face.

Modern Session Begins...

How sexy is this soon-to-be kiss!  Ahhh...

You can find crazy settings in Georgetown.  This is one part of the old Rainier Brewing Company building planned to be torn down soon - bummer.  A full grown tree is growing out of the wall - save the tree!

Something Old, Something New...  I think the shoes say it all.  Two classics.

Nothing is sweeter than expecting your second child...

Our dear friends were expecting their second child when they asked me to photograph their family before his arrival.  We have almost everything is common - our eldest daughters are 2 months apart in age, she is a full-time stay at home mother like me and our hubbies are die-hard Democrats.  You could say that we have lots to compare and we understand what it is like to raise children in the city in small homes.  We have enjoyed conversations about dealing with preschoolers, creating extra storage space and going on city adventures together.  But one thing about our life in the city is different - the lake.  And not just any lake - but the most beautiful lake Seattlites treasure from all directions.  Lake Union.  It was pretty easy to think of a good location to take photographs for this session.  Living on a houseboat comes with a step-outside-my-door-into-the-lake kind of advantage and I enjoyed photographing this family in their natural surroundings.  Ahhh...the lake.

Photographing a second-time mom is so amazing.  You would think first-time moms would be the icing on the cake, but it is the mothers that have already endured the sleepless nights, the spit-up on the shirt and the cuddles, kisses and cries which warm my heart.  Parenting is a lot of work and is emotionally trying.  But these mothers know what they are getting into and do it all over again because the rewards of being a parent outweighs the negative.  Their beautiful anticipation and excitement radiates off of them spreading the contagious 'maybe I want another baby' to people like me.  As for now, I enjoy my restful nights.

Where was I?  Oh just dangling off the ledge on my stomach - anything for a good angle.

To date - one of my favorite family photos.  It had to be all by itself.

birdie BOOTH : Reunion.

This past weekend was my 10 year high school reunion at the Fountain Room in Bremerton, WA.  I organized the event and decided to test my new photo booth, the 'birdie BOOTH,' at the event with old friends and classmates.  The cocktail reception was awesome - everyone enjoyed themselves and I left the evening full of happiness and nostalgia.  There are few people in this world that get me.  You know, REALLY get me.  I think we can say that about only a handful of people in our lives.  This weekend, most of those people were in one room and it made me so happy.
I wanted this reunion to just be that - a reunion.  Not a 'what job do you have', 'how many kids do you have', 'how exciting is your life' kind of reunion which many 10 year class reunions can become.  I thought the 'birdie BOOTH' gave us the opportunity to just let go with each other- enjoy in the moment together and laugh, laugh, LAUGH.  There was a lot of laughing.  So good to share those moments with cherished friends.  I can't wait for the next reunion.

A big thanks to Alex Knight Photography for running my 'birdie BOOTH' so I could have a few too many drinks and enjoy the rare time with friends.
